Chad Pennington gets sacked as the starting quarterback the New York Jets.
Eric Mangini announced that Jets will go with Kellen Clemmens for the next games as starter Chad Pennington season so far has proven to be a disaster for the struggling Jets (1-7). “I made this decision not based on singling out Chad for where we are, but based on the fact that I think Kellen has earned this opportunity,” Mangini said. “I want to give him this opportunity. It’s in no way an indication that Chad is solely responsible. We all are.” Clemmens is in his second year in pro-football, and has started this season in one game, against the Baltimore Ravens, throwing 19 for 37 passes, for 260 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
In last week’s loss at Giants Stadium in New York, he was cheered as he entered the field, the Jets fans having enough of the mistakes made by Pennington. “Chad is a captain, he’s been the leader of this team for a long time, and I know that myself and the rest of the guys respect him and look up to him,” said Clemmens about Pennington when he was told that he’s got to do more for the team and he’ll take over the job. The 24-year-old headed into the practice knowing he’ll open up on that initial possession Sunday against the Washington Redskins in front of their fans. He also called Pennington a friend, and a mentor.
