The Bears (3-5) came into Sunday’s game looking to go into their bye week with a .500 record after a disastrous start to their 2007 campaign. On the other side of the ball Marinelli’s Lions (5-2) led on offense by the Evil Genius Mike Martz were looking to capitalize on their excellent start and to close the gap to the division leading Packers
With the fearsome Bears defense crippled injuries all hope rested in the hands of Brian Griese who led the bears to their last two wins, who was facing one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. The lions offense on the other hand lived up to its reputation burning the bears in the first half, going ahead 13-0 on a Kevin Jones 4 yards touchdown and two Jason Hanson field goals including a 52 yarder that hit the inside of the upright. The Lions had the chance to go to the locker-room with a 16-0 lead but Hanson missed a 29yd field goal as the 2nd quarter ended.
After the half the Lions almost gave the Bears the chance to comeback after doing what no team should do: kicking to Devin Hester who’s 40yd punt return put the Bears in excellent field positions and cot them back into the game with a Greg Olsen touchdown. Sadly for the Bears Brian Griese seamed to be possessed by Rex Grossman in the second half throwing 3 interceptions (4 in the game) there of them in the end zone basically sealing the Lions victory and only their second sweep of the Bears in the last ten years.
